Blueberries
Lois Eisbach grew up near Duluth, Minnesota, where she developed a deep connection to nature by picking and foraging wild, organic blueberries. When she and John Sr. purchased the Wooded Wonderland property, she carried that passion with her, planting a vast blueberry patch in 1963 that would bloom into a symbol of her love for the earth and its natural gifts. This berry patch was planted with the intent to connect people with the land and allow them to come out and pick blueberries.
In the early to mid-1970s, the Eisbach family brought their vision to life by opening Wooded Wonderland to the public. They introduced a unique experience, offering pick-your-own blueberries, camping, and trail rides, inviting visitors to connect with nature and create lasting memories on the land they had nurtured with love and care.

Timber
Pictured: John Sr. & John Jr. (Papa)
In 1959, John Sr. and John Jr. (Papa) planted 40,000 red pine trees on their land, a total of 100,000 trees were planted over the years. They envisioned these trees being cared for organically and used as a crop. Each tree stood as a testament to their dedication and hard work.
Though John Sr. passed away before he could see them reach their full potential due to Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma caused by pesticide exposure, not of his own doing. His vision lives on in the towering trees, a powerful reminder of John’s unwavering commitment to the land and the future.
John Jr. passionately carried forward his father's vision, building a sawmill on the land and cultivating a sustainable approach to timber. He carefully and selectively harvested the trees, always preserving the integrity of the land by avoiding clear-cutting. With dedication, he crafted specialty wood products for his clients, each piece reflecting his commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability, and a legacy of thoughtful stewardship of the land.

Potatoes
“John Eisbach, 22, of Galena holds a handful of mulched hay which he uses in his organic potato patch.”
Papa’s love for planting potatoes began when he was a young man, sparking a lifelong passion for nurturing his own organic potato patch. This dedication to the land and the simple joy of growing has been passed down to us, inspiring a legacy of care and connection to the earth.
When we were younger, we’d eagerly join in to help with the harvest of the potatoes. Those moments are memories that will stay with us forever. As Papa would always laugh and say, "Don’t stab the potatoes while digging!" Let’s just say, there were plenty of potatoes that ended up with a little extra "character," making those days even more memorable.
The Goat Trek
In 2019, Hoof It Goat Treks was launched on the upper part of Wooded Wonderland. Much like Papa’s Patch, Hoof It was created with the same purpose in mind: to get people out in nature and help them reconnect with the beauty of open spaces. Originally started as a side hustle to help fund our college education, by teaching us how to start and run a business, Hoof It blossomed into something much more. It became a beloved part of our lives and is our Mom’s full-time job, continuing the family tradition of sharing the land’s magic with others. HoofItGalena.com
Trek alongside goats then indulge in the simple pleasure of blueberry picking, all on the same beautiful land. This is the vision that John Sr. and Papa cherished, and we are proud to carry it forward, inviting others to experience it as they once hoped.
Sisters
They say a sister's bond is unbreakable, and they were right. We are like two peas in a pod, yet each uniquely different in our own beautiful ways. Sydney is gentle, compassionate, and filled with love, while Sami is fierce, bold, and brutally honest. Even with our differences, we share the same core value: to love deeply, fully, and unconditionally. Together, we’re a perfect balance, and the closeness we share is something truly special.
Growing up, we shared endless adventures that shaped our bond. We spent countless hours playing in the mud, creating our own little world of laughter and joy. Our favorite was running our very own "mud restaurant" in the fort that our mom and dad built—where everything was made of dirt, but the love and imagination we poured into it were as real as could be. It wasn’t just about playing; it was about building something together, creating memories, and learning that no matter where life takes us, we’ll always have each other to lean on. Those muddy moments were the foundation of something much deeper—a sisterhood that’s as strong and timeless as the love we’ve always shared.

In Loving Memory
Papa left this life for the next December 1, 2024. It is with deep gratitude and joy that we continue to welcome people to our land, carrying forward the legacy and vision he had for it. Each visit serves as a beautiful reminder of the purpose he set for this place—nurturing nature, fostering community, and creating lasting memories.
Our logo features a caricature of our beloved Papa, complete with his iconic beanie, mustache, and kind eyes. Papa is the true heart of both the land and this business, and we honor him by making him the face of Papa’s Patch. His spirit lives on in every corner of the land and in every aspect of our work.
Remember, DON’T STAB THE POTATOES!
